you give us a historical background of The APIIT? |

Since its inception in 1998 in collaboration with APIIT Malaysia
we are a centre of excellence to meet the growing need of I.T. & Business
Professionals in Pakistan and the region, more than 300 of our students
are serving the industry in Pakistan and other countries. Our institute
is affiliated with the Staffordshire University, which has one of the largest
computing schools in UK and our degree is recognized by the Higher Education
Commission, Pakistan. And our highly qualified teachers have received specialized
training at APIIT Malaysia. The APIIT has seven campuses in four countries
including Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and India. The latest one, which
started in 2002 in Malaysia, is the Technology Path Malaysia (TPM). |

What
makes The APIIT a better choice for students? |

All the courses and other curricular material come from
APIIT, Malaysia, or from the Staffordshire University, UK. The course
we teach here at The APIIT has no comparison to that of any local
universities or other educational institutions.
Students have the advantage of studying in their own country and get a
foreign degree. The course and the standard of education remains the same,
but they pay only one-third the amount they would have if they had gone
abroad. Besides, we have credit transfer facilities for the students.
After completing one year from The APIIT, students can transfer their
credits to a Staffordshire University campus in the UK. We have around
fourteen universities in the UK and some more in Australia where our credits
can be transferred. More than 150 of our students have transferred their
credits abroad. They are studying in Middlesex, Oxford Brookes University
and at other places abroad. In fact, Middlesex and Staffordshire have
now so many The APIIT students that they have become a sort of The
APIIT colonies. Student study here for one, two or even three years
and then proceed to UK and for further studies. |

The numbers of those who have graduated from The APIIT
have joined multinational organizations and foreign banks, not just in IT
but in management and other areas as well. |

is the key reason for the success of students graduating from The APIIT? |

Our curriculum has been designed in such a manner that our
students not only become familiar with IT but also with the business and
other areas such as accounting, business administration, engineering and
information planning. All these researches related subjects have a very
market demand leadership qualities are developed during their academic projects.
Students are encouraged to work in teams as well as independently. |

What
about The APIIT Faculty? |

Before appointment, our teachers have to go through a stringent
process including interviews and mock lectures; and their CVs are sent to
UK for approval. They should have at least a Masters degree or preferably
a PhD in order to teach Level 2 or Level 3. For Levels 0 and Level 1, we
have engineering graduates. At other universities, a Bachelor in an engineering
discipline can be appointed directly as a lecturer but here at The APIIT he must hold a Master’s in an Engineering discipline. This is
our criterion. |

about The APIIT’s future programme? |

We are working towards our Masters Degree programme. We already
have requisite recognition of the Higher Education Commission, and Registration
with Government of Sindh (NOC). |

we have more detail on your collaboration programme? |

After completing their first year students are awarded diploma
in Computing and IT. Those doing Business programme get a diploma in Business
Administration. This diploma is awarded by APIIT, Malaysia. After the second
year, the Staffordshire University awards them Higher Education Certificate.
On completion of the third year, of course, a student gets a degree. |

What
about hands-on training? |

We send our students to various multinationals for internship.
Reputed institutions such as the Citibank, ABN-Amro, Procter & Gamble,
Union Bank and Faysal Bank are our choice institutions for this purpose.
The general opinion with these organizations is that the interns from The
APIIT are outstanding in every respect. |

about placement of The APIIT’s graduates? |

The institute also has a job placement system we have a job
placement system. We are on the lookout for internships with the foreign
banks and other prestigious institutions. As soon as we get information
that a vacancy is vacant, it is displayed on the notice board. At present,
more than 300 students are working with various organizations. They are
doing so well that these organizations consider them as technical experts
in their respective fields. You’ll find our graduates in the institutions
I have already named. Besides, you’ll also find many of them in the
Middle East and Far East. |

What
kind of facilities do you have at The APIIT? |

We offer the same facilities that the students at Malaysia.
Our computer labs are equipped with P3s and P4s and we believe in giving
our students the best possible.
Sometimes you will see faculty members using less advanced technology,
and students using P4s. This is because at the end of the day it is the
student who is learning more and needs a faster computer for their softwares.
The entire institute here in networked, we have DSL service, which is
128 Kb/s. the employees correspond with each other via email over this
network. This means that the staff does not need to walk from room to
room, saving time and effort.

Would
you shed some light on credit transfer? |

This institute is affiliated with Staffordshire University
UK. All universities of UK are reserved under a quality assurance agency,
which strictly monitors all over seas campuses. Currently there are twenty
universities to which credits may be transferred both in UK and in Australia.
Students who have completed their first year and transfer their credits
to these universities. Students who have finished their second year may
also transfer their credits to any of the universities in UK or Australia
and may finish their third year there. |
